EnterpriseDB Targets MySQL, Unveils Its Own Open-Source Approach Live on SYS-CON.TV
Oracle Compatibility Expected to Generate Enthusiasm

EnterpriseDB, based in Edison, New Jersey, has developed an open-source database approach built on PostgreSQL and offering Oracle compability. Andy Astor, co-founder and CEO said the company will offer "enterprise class" functionality and capability with its EnterpriseDB (EDB) software, which is available immediately for download at www.enterprisedb.com.

Astor and Doug Lussier, co-founder and Chief Architect, said in an exclusive interview with SYS-CON.TV that their company's strategy will initially target MySQL in its quest for new customers. The co-founders mentioned that they will eventually be competing for Oracle customers as well, but have stressed that MySQL is their initial competition.

The EnterpriseDB system includes a database server, an RDMBS engine, and something called EDB Studio, a graphical console which enables access from JDBC, ODBC, .NET, ESQL/C++, php, Perl, and Python.

The EDB public beta period begins immediately, with general availability expected this summer. During the beta period, commercial-grade technical support will be provided free of charge. The software and more information concerning the company and product are available at the company's website, www.enterprisedb.com.

Astor and Lussier also talked about their background and professional achievements during the exclusive SYS-CON.TV interview. (Astor has been a member of SYS-CON's Web Services Journal international advisory board since the magazine's inception and served as the chairperson of the Web Services Edge International Web Services Conference & Expo.)
